Questions about the type of tree they will receive.
The type of tree you will receive is selected from a diverse list of urban-appropriate trees available from the nursery. but you get to select from three categories when you sign.
Categories include: Flowering trees 🌺 , trees that turn beautiful colors in the fall 🍁, trees that encourage bio diversity and birds in the area 🐦 (less flies for example), or have a certified arborist select for you during inspection day :)
How big is my new tree?
Our trees are generally between six to twelve feet tall. If there are any space constraints like wires or other obstructions, a smaller stature tree will be chosen.
Question about Watering the tree.
From the time when the leaves being to appear in spring through generally the first frost, water new trees once a week with 15 gallons of water. When in doubt, check the soil at the base of the tree, and if it is dry, please water.
Questions about Weeding and Mulching Around the Tree.
Street trees have limited soil and nutrients due to their confined spaces making mulching essential.
Weeding and Mulching Instructions:
- Remove turf grass and weeds completely, including the roots to prevent regrowth.
- Apply mulch in a donut shape around the tree using materials like shredded bark, leaves, or composted wood chips.
- Keep the mulch 3-4 inches high. More than this can restrict oxygen and moisture to the roots.
- Ensure the tree trunk does not touch the mulch to prevent bark decay. A 2-3 inch mulch-free area around the trunk is ideal.
Protecting their Tree From Pets.
Keep dogs and their waste away from the tree bed. Dog waste can harm the tree by burning its roots and overwhelming it with nutrients. By following these guidelines, you can help your new tree thrive in its urban environment.
